In the Heat!
June 6, 2008
Most visitors come to Dubai in the winter season, between November and March, when Dubai weather is warm and sunny without being unbearably hot. Winter temperatures are around 23 degrees C in the daytime, while nights are cooler.
Summer temperatures are in the high-40s, and soar higher the further inland you go. Even the temperature of the sea can reach 37 degrees C.
Visitors brave enough to visit in the summer should be aware of a couple of important points:
Firstly, don’t think the heat gives you an excuse to walk around in a state of undress.
Secondly, do take care to avoid heatstroke, heat stroke is the condition that happens when the body takes in more heat then it can let out.

Our body works hard to keep itself at an optimal temperature. The scale into the ‘danger zone’ begins with body temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, that are life threatening.
At 41 degrees Celsius brain death starts. At 45 degrees Celsius death is almost certain.
Heat stroke can come on suddenly as our temperature regulating mechanism can simply become over-exercised and shut down.
Be smart about when and how you push your body and you will be able to reduce the risks of such conditions as heat stroke.
Simple steps that you can take, like staying hydrated, avoiding over-exhaustion in hot temperatures, etc are all that it takes.
You need to manage your time like the Spanish. Get up early to do things, then have a siesta or stay indoors before 5pm, when it’s pleasant to go outside again.
Normally during the weekend , during the early morning hours I slot a visit to Starbucks — Starbucks are normally located in one of the malls.
These malls are all air-conditioned. It is just a case of stepping from my air-conditioned hotel, walking a few hundred meters and step into the air-conditioned mall, all at comfortable levels rather than deep-freeze temperatures that leave you with a nasty cold.
By 5.30 pm, I go out before sunset for a swim in the hotel’s swimming pool, or watching the cranes building this man-made cosmpolitan city filled with luxury homes and offices, stretching into the Arabian Gulf.
Hot Air
May 11, 2008
There aren’t many things that make up for having to get up in the middle of the night, but watching the sun rise above the desert dunes from a hot balloon must surely rank as one of them.
Captain Dee has been professional balloon pilot for 15 years and flown through the airspace of more than 25 countries, so he’s had more than his fair share of early flights.
Q: Why the early starts?
A: Because the air is at its most stable and temperature is coollest
Q: What do passengers see on a Balloon ride:
A: Bedouin villages, Jebel Faya, camel farms, oasis farms growing vegetables. Different coloured sand and wadis.
Queen of the Arabian Sea
April 22, 2008
The past two days lexates.com paid a visit to Kochi in Kerala situated on the south-west coast of the Indian peninsula. Over centuries the Arabs, British, Chinese, Dutch, and Portuguese have left noticeable marks on the history and development of Cochin.
This lovely seaside city is flanked by the Arabian Sea on the west and green scenery on the East. Its proximity to the equator, the sea and the mountains provide a rich experience of a moderate equatorial climate. In order to capture the beauty and vigor of this city and its surroundings one should travel there to experience it. Kochi is the original name of the city, while Cochin is the colonial name.
A stroll along the beach, particularly at sunset with the Chinese fishing nets and sailing ships in the background, is a memorable experience. Many European style bungalows can be seen along the shoreline.
The many backwaters in the area of Kochi are dotted with many small and mid-sized islands. An organized boat ride is something I will definitely do the next time I visit the area.

City of Gold - part 2
January 30, 2008
It has been 5 months since lexates.com went to Dubai for a fact finding tour.We were so overwhelmed by the place that in the beginning of December 2007 we decided to open a temporary branch of lexates.com in Dubai. We definitely took the right decision, Dubai is definitely the place where history is written as we speak.
